75 teams representing universities from 11 countries from across the globe and 13 US states participated in this year’s challenge – the most diverse cohort since the competition’s inception. Vying for a chance to win $15,000 in prize money, participating teams worked on developing a business model for Nithio’s growth and diversification in the energy access financing market in the sub-Saharan African region. Nithio is an AI-driven platform for clean energy solutions financing that has standardized credit risk to catalyze billions of dollars of capital to address climate change and achieve universal energy access.

Conducted in partnership with the James E. Rogers Energy Access Project at Duke and the Duke MBA Energy Club, the annual Energy in Emerging Markets Case Competition (EEMCC) engages graduate students from across the globe to solve clean energy access challenges in emerging economies.
